Lisa Mumm first reached out to me in 2019. She was in the middle of a website overhaul, creating an updated virtual storefront for her clients. While I was new to the trend of growing your own micro greens and sprouts at home, the Mumm’s have been in the business for generations and I was happy to help them produce some fresh photos.

Lisa came to me very prepared with what she needed, which although not necessary, made for a super simple process on my end which in turn saved her some cash on the business end. From working with her web designer, she new every place holder in need of a photo and had drawings and mock ups of what she wanted a photo of in each spot.

At the time I was working out of my home in Saskatoon and had set up a studio in my kitchen. She arrived with her products and shot list and we got to work! To keep with the light theme of her website, I shot most of the images on a white backdrop. This allowed the items in the photos to appear to be one with the website background and be easily reformatted for web and mobile viewing. We also made use of my kitchen as a backdrop for some of the photos to help reinforce the messaging of at home growing.

In addition to these featured website photos, Lisa also needed a handful of product photos updated in her online store. These were captured on the white background and marked the beginning of many more product updates since. In the summer of 2020 we had our first masked shoot in my home, after postponing it as the two of us both ended up “stuck” in BC during the first lockdown in March and April. In late 2020 I moved my studio to the garage to photograph some more micro greens and sprouts, and now that I am in Revelstoke permanently, Lisa has been able to mail me items to photograph. She has yet to put me to the test and request photos of items that I’ve grown myself, but the kits are so easy to use I think even I could manage!
