Welcome to Kinasao

Katee Pederson

Kinasao (kin-ah-say-oh) is a Cree word meaning fish.  Camp Kinasao is a Lutheran Bible Camp located 180 km north of Saskatoon, SK in a transition area between boreal forest and prairie.  It sits on Christopher Lake and is surrounded by trees about 15km away from Prince Albert National Park.  It is 75 years old and it is my home.

Am I a creative person?

Throughout photography school, my answer was often no.  I thought scattered ideas lead to creativity and order lead away.  There was a stereotype of what a creative art student was meant to look like and I did not see myself in it.  I thought that the - what I considered to be - irrational decisions of others resulted in creativity, while my need for logic prevented it.  But this perception was illogical in itself.

On Home and Goodbyes

I'm no stranger to goodbyes. It took much less than 15 years for Saskatoon to become my home, but that's when I first said goodbye to it.  I'm fearful of the goodbyes because I know they will hurt, but I've come to learn that the more life I want to experience the more goodbyes I have to say.
